Founded in 2012, Morgan Sterling Consultants (MSC) is a boutique transport consultancy agency that provides discrete and high level management and market advice to clients within sub-Saharan Africa who have rail haulage requirements. MSC provides services in Anglophone countries and also specialises in Francophone and Lusophone territories.
The main consultant behind MSC is Mark Reed who worked for Vecturis SA for several years as a leading operations manager and Chief Executive Officer with their Cameroon (Camrail), SNCC (DRC Congo) and Madagascar (Madarail) railway concessions.
His experience and training with this company who are renown as one of the most efficient railway operators on the African continent has proved invaluable in assisting various other freight clients, infrastructure developers and government agencies in the sub-Saharan region.

RECENT PROJECTS
Since starting the company several years ago in Johannesburg, MSC has provided consultancy services to the following clients:

New Limpopo Project Investments – MSC was contracted to grow and market bi-directional Sulphur and Copper freight on the North-South Rail Corridor between Copperbelt and the South African ports.

Grindrod Rail Consultancy Services – MSC has undertaken pre-feasibility studies for mines in Malawi, Bostwana and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These studies have subsequently been published on various stock exchange feeds in Canada and Australia and have formed the basis for fundraising for these projects.

Pembani Remgro Investment Managers – MSC have undertaken review studies for ICD terminals in Malawi and Mozambique. This project included a full market report for freight moving in and out of Malawi.

IIvanhoe Mines – MSC has been a leading contributor to the pre-feasibility work undertaken to develop a viable logistics solution for their Kipushi & Kamoa Mine projects in the Congo.

Sovereign Metals - MSC have acted as the logistics consultant for both the Malingunde graphite & Kasiya rutile projects in Malawi.

North West Rail (NWR) – MSC have been continuously contracted by NWR as a commercial advisor to the Rt Hon Enoch Kavindele, Chairman of NWR.

AVZ Minerals - MSC have been contracted to advise and develop a viable and environmentally acceptable logistics solution for this exciting DRC lithium mining project which is ASX listed.Galison

MARK REED
Mark Reed, Senior Consultant, is based in Johannesburg and London. He holds a Masters Degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University (tutored by Stephen Hawking) and an MBA qualification from Harvard Business School.
He is a fluent French speaker and commands good Spanish.
His multi-decade years of unbroken hands-on experience of managing and operating rail services in the region, give him a unique insight into client’s issues in relation to logistics, freight and asset management.
Additionally, Mark is an expert advisor to Seedpitch Consulting on a variety of transport infrastructure and governmental projects for a host of international clients.
